Thank You Funders!

The Truckee Donner Land Trust is the proud recipient of grants from multiple funders that will assist key land acquisitions and stewardship projects. Grants like these make it possible for us to create a legacy of open space – a historic, open, wild and diverse legacy – for today, tomorrow and for future generations to enjoy. Read on to learn how we will use these grants.

Webber Lake

The Land Trust received a $75,000 grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.  This funds the creation of a timber management plan that will be the guiding document for forest management on over 3000 acres.  The forest management will focus on sustaining healthy meadows, and making the forests more resilient to disease, bark beetle infestation, and catastrophic fire.  In concert with the Conservancy’s grant, the Community Foundation of Western Nevada’s Truckee River Fund generously provided $70,000 to thin areas of bark beetle infestation and overly-dense forest adjacent to Webber Lake.  Webber Lake is the headwater lake of the Little Truckee River, which provides drinking water to Western Nevada.

Carpenter Valley

The State of California and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation have pledged $1,350,000 for the acquisition of lower Carpenter Valley.  The State funding, $850,000, is pledged through Caltrans’s Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation Program (EEMP) and from the California Natural Resources AgencyThe National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is funding $500,000 through the Sierra Meadows Program.

Donner Lake Rim Trail + More

Tahoe-Truckee Community Foundation's Martis Fund provided the Land Trust with $20,000 for the Donner Lake Rim Trail and for technology infrastructure upgrades at Land Trust Headquarters.  The Rim Trail funding will move the permitting process forward on the South side of the trail, across Schallenberger Ridge. In addition, the Nature Fund provided $10,000 for Land Trust projects.

We are so grateful to our grantors for this funding- your support is critical to our work! We look forward to working together to set aside more stunning landscapes for today, tomorrow and years to come.
