The Truckee Donner Land Trust is pleased to welcome J. Thomas Van Berkem as its new President of the Board of Directors. Van Berkem is a retired senior executive at WellPoint Inc., a Fortune 50 health insurance company. He has previously worked as a labor mediator for the construction industry, a human resources manager for Whirlpool and an executive with several banks. He serves on a number of Boards, including his election one year ago to the Truckee Tahoe Airport Board, where he is Vice President.

Van Berkem, who replaces Martin Bern, began his tenure at the Land Trust by serving on the Board and working to save the Waddle Ranch Preserve. "I have enjoyed the natural open beauty of Truckee Donner lands since the seventies. When this became our home
five years ago, it became clear that I wanted to help preserve its beauty for generations to come. As the Land Trust President, I am excited to continue and help guide this wonderful mission,” says Van Berkem.

Truckee Donner Land Trust Executive Director, Perry Norris, adds, "Tom is a seasoned manager, a brilliant strategic thinker and a passionate conservationist. The Land Trust will be well served by having Tom at the helm.”

Tom and his wife Cathy live in Northstar with their Bernese Mountain Dog, Pandora.

Other officers recently elected are: Janet Zipser Zipkin, Vice President, William Thauvette, Treasurer and Jeff Hamilton, Secretary.
