Summer Job Opening at Lower Carpenter Valley

Title: Lower Carpenter Valley Caretaker

Compensation: $21/hour

Status: Part-time (32 hrs/week) Seasonal (May 15th – Oct 15th) or as property access allows

Supervisor: Truckee Donner Land Trust (TDLT) Stewardship Director is the primary supervisor.    

Job Description/Job Duties:

·      Onsite housing is not available, but applicant may bring their own small to medium size RV or van (full hookups not available)

·      Must possess a valid DL and reliable means of transportation

·      Ability to obtain employer provided CPR/First Aid training

·      Ability to work alone in remote settings in adverse terrain and weather

·      Ability to lift, carry, and travel short distances with 50lbs of equipment

·      Ability to communicate verbally, written, and electronically with supervisors and staff

·      Part-time is 32 hours per week. Any overtime must be pre-approved by supervisor 

·      Caretaker will meet with TDLT supervisor once per week, or as needed, alternating between the Truckee office and onsite at

·      Employees are expected to dress professionally while working or in areas of the preserve that are visible or accessible to the public when not working. Examples can include khakis, jeans, or Carhartt type work pants, non-branded t-shirt, or a collared shirt. Exceptions allowed with a doctor’s note

·      The position would be summer seasonal and the expectation is that a caretaker would be onsite 90 nights throughout the season, absences will not exceed ten days in a row without permission from the Truckee Donner Land Trust

·      Ability to provide courteous, personal outreach to volunteers and the public while enforcing the rules and regulations of the property

·      Other responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, basic trail and road maintenance, property and infrastructure maintenance, interacting with trail users, property clean up, property monitoring and assisting the Land Trust with assorted operations and events in the valley
