Truckee Springs Update: Almost Ready to Enjoy

The white lines show the rough alignments for the Truckee River Legacy Trail on Truckee Springs.

As the summer season comes to an end, a lot of exciting progress has been made for public access at Truckee Springs.

Working with the Town of Truckee, the Truckee River Legacy Trail crossing the property and coming down from near the Cottonwood Restaurant have been graded, and preliminary work around the footings for the planned pedestrian bridge is underway. Our goal is to have both the new segment of trail and the bridge completed by the end of next summer.

While it may look messy during construction, the end result will be well worth the wait. There will be a multi-use trail giving everyone access to the beautiful open space and Truckee River right in the heart of our community.

Staff has also installed fencing around unique wildlife habitat in a cottonwood stand next to the river to protect the area and ensure the critters that call that area home can remain undisturbed when Truckee Springs is opened to the public.

Once the Legacy Trail is constructed, staff also plans earthen trails built to access different parts of the 67-acre property, including some river access.

We can’t wait to share this property with you once the Legacy Trail and pedestrian bridge are complete.
